How to Convert CGPA to Percentage

A Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is an assessment of your overall academic performance across a specific course or degree. While the CGPA system provides a smooth grading band, many university admissions departments, scholarship boards, and employers still request scores in absolute percentages.

Standard Formula

The most widely used formulation for Indian boards (such as CBSE) and technical universities to convert a 10-point scale CGPA to a percentage is to multiply the CGPA by 9.5.

Percentage = CGPA × 9.5

Alternative Formula

Some universities prefer a direct ratio to normalize scores, simply treating the CGPA as a fraction of the maximum possible score and converting that to a percentage.

% = (CGPA / Max) × 100

Always check the back of your official university transcript. If your institution has printed a custom formula for percentage conversion, that formula takes precedence over any standard metric when applying for visas or international programmes.
